When asked to  "describe one aspect of the session you will incorporate into your teaching," respondents identified the following:

bullet

I love the syllabus feature!

bullet

As I teach online, I will use every aspect of this workshop!

bullet

Online postings.

bullet

For starters:  student presentations all in Vista accessible to everybody.

bullet

I will use blended learning in my current class, thanks to the fact that GCSU has already imported the names of my students and to the possibility of getting minimal functions.

bullet

I will use the aspects of WebCT that I find useful.

bullet

Use of syllabus tool.

bullet

Use of Vista to develop syllabus.

bullet

Implementing Vista for my courses.

bullet

Use of Teach section.

bullet

Use of Vista/View.

bullet

Posting notes, discussions, resources.

bullet

I was suprised that Vista looks to be a significant improvement on WebCT.  Now all we need is for it to start working!  I will still wait until summer before using it for my courses.

bullet

I will be using all of this information in developing a web site and materials for a web site.

Respondents indicated the following incidental learning as a result of the session:

bullet

How much easier it is to navigate Vista.

bullet

Strategies for online classes.

bullet

How much boredom and slowness some trainers can incorporate into a workshop.  The material covered was not worth 3 hours; it should have been condensed into an hour or less.  This joker obviously does not have enough to do, so he decided to waste our time for the day.  I hate to think how much we paid him for such SLOW instruction.

bullet

Define assets of Vista in addition to traditional teaching.

bullet

Got good individual help from the presenter.

bullet

Ease of access to student view.

bullet

How crippled the system is when the server is not working well.

bullet

Nothing.

bullet

That Vista does have a full-text search component to it.

bullet

Availability of resources.

bullet

How to upload to the website.

bullet

What the training did for me is this...it showed me that Vista is slower than a snail, grossly unstable and unreliable.  There's no way in heck that I'll use it until they get the bugs out.  Too bad, it would be a great tool for outside-of-class group work.

Respondents indicated the following learning needs AFTER the training:

bullet

Unsure at present.

bullet

Online test creation.

bullet

Examples of student success that has been enhanced as a result of this technology.

bullet

Foreign language content already available; Horizon Live Classroom/Illuminate Live Classroom.

bullet

Module design.

bullet

Matching teaching strategies to learning objectives.

bullet

Going through the entire process of creating a WebCT VISTA site from beginning to end.

bullet

I would have liked to have had a list of vocabulary - and then definitions (so I could know what Vista calls things).

bullet

Just more practice time.

Respondents offered the following suggestions to improve the session:

bulletThe problem with our workshop was the slow response of Vista.  This was beyond the trainer's control.
bulletThe computer problems encountered was not in your control - this made learning very difficult.  I really expected to have more done in the 3 hour time - I had also completed the online course, so I have spent some considerable time with this subject and still feel inadequate with it.  This is somewhat frustrating.  Thanks for caring.
bulletThe server was down. :(
bulletCondense it to one hour.
bulletMake sure Vista site works.  Communicate better to faculty to bring "real" work.
bulletI was distracted by the number of typos on the screen.  At first, I thought it was a teaching technique, so that we would learn how to edit.  It wasn't.
bulletThe guest knew how to explain the most important stuff quickly.
bulletIf computer system is not working, abort class and reschedule.
bulletNeeded less of the overview and more time spent with the module concept.  We spent too long with the general stuff and have a very rushed last 20 minutes in the session I attended.
bulletThe content was well presented.  I believe it was helpful to me to have completed the online sessions before attending.
bulletSpend more time on the instructor tools and much less time looking at Vista from the student point of view.
bulletIt was well done with many facilitators to help each participant.
