"Using Apple Podcasting Technologies to Upload Once and Play Everywhere"
Learn how faculty throughout the University System of Georgia are able to upload audio, video and other content to the USG Podcasting Server and then present that content to students and others via iTunes U, the iTunes app, a CMS (e.g.Bb Vista), a Blog, a Wiki, an iPhone oriPod touch (web app) or any other standard web server.

Combining two full day, hands-on workshops (12/5 & 12/12) with six remote sessions via Horizon Wimba, participants were provided a wide range of experiences in planning, producing, preparing, publishing and promoting educational podcast channels. Both iTunes U and the USG Podcasting Server were used and participants learned how to combine these two services to capitalize upon the unique strengths of each.

On any campus, the white ear buds of iPods have become as
commonplace as pens and notebooks. At many institutions,
iPods and podcasting have become tools for bringing value
added activities to the educational experience. To be
considered "more than a little boom box," faculty and staff
must understand the various tools and the possible uses of
podcasting. In Part I, an overview of the Apple components
of podcasting will be presented.
Podcasting Part II: The USG Podcast Server 12:00

In 2002 when the iPod was born, there was no way to share
academic files for these devices. Georgia College,
supported by the University System of Georgia, developed
the USG Podcast Server for distribution of materials. This
service, with the help of USG faculty, has evolved into a
robust resource more powerful than iTunes U. In Part II,
the components of the USG Podcast Server and iTunes U will
show there is a value to including both in the
institution's podcasting initiatives.

"The iPhone and iPod Touch as Learning Tools" Companion Web Site for Presentation
The iPhone and iPod touch represent a major advance in the usability and functionality of mobile devices. Many educators have thus been encouraged to seriously consider shifting more resources toward leveraging the undeniable interest today's students have in mobile technology. This presentation will explore the case of Abilene Christian University, the first university in the nation to provide all incoming freshmen with an iPhone or iPod touch with an eye toward the applicability of these concepts USG institutions.

White ear buds are as commonplace on today’s campuses as backpacks. But can handheld, mobile technologies like the iPod be an effective means for distributing academic content? Can video and audio podcasts via laptop establish an environment of student engagement? While “social networking” centers around the production and distribution of podcast materials, the key challenge for faculty and student support staff is to get beyond the “little boom box” stereotype and determine how the resources and tools used to produce and distribute academic podcasts can bring students together to enhance their total educational experience. During this half-day workshop, three representatives from two of the country’s leading ‘podcasting institutions’ will share their campuses’ successes engaging students through podcasting projects. Workshop participants will walk through podcasting, hardware and software options, simple production and editing procedures for video and audio content, and distribution methods. Finally, participants will build an ‘iDreamers’ list of social networking activity concepts they can adapt to bring value-added benefits to programs on their campuses.
