About the M.Ed.Like the B.S. degree program, the Master of Education in Kinesiology, Outdoor Education Administration emphasis, is offered through the department of Kinesiology. The degree program perpares students for careers as outdoor educators and program administrators in schools, universities, environmental education centers, parks, and wilderness therapy programs. Many students also continue their education at the doctoral level. The M.Ed. program combines two years of rigorous academics with other elements, including service learning experiences, hands-on facilitation requirements, and nationally recognized technical skill trainings, such as American Canoe Association whitewater canoe and sea kayak workshops. Students also gain professional certifications including Wilderness First Responder and Leave No Trace Master Educator. Graduate students may choose to complete an internship or cap their study by writing a thesis. Students entering the M.Ed. program begin their experience with a balance of classroom work and skills training through the technical cohort. Offered in the fall semester of the first year, cohort forms the foundation for subsequent coursework and working with classmates, while also giving students a background in a variety of outdoor skills. These include rock climbing, caving, backpacking, sea kayaking, whitewater canoeing, tree climbing, and challenge course facilitation. Through field trips, the cohort program takes advantage of the mountains, rivers, and coasts of the southeast to facilitate students' learning.
