COURSE
DESCRIPTION:
Material, methods, and techniques
of exercise testing, and prescription for normal and special populations.
V.
RATIONALE:
This course is required for Health Education: Exercise Science & Athletic Training majors. Its purpose is to provide students with the knowledge and skills of physical fitness testing in an applied laboratory setting.

COURSE
OBJECTIVES:
Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to administer the following testing procedures:
1. Resting Cardiovascular testing.
- Blood pressure assessment
- Resting EKG interpretation
2. Aerobic Fitness testing.
3. Graded exercise testing.
- Treadmill
- Cycle ergometry
4. Flexibility testing.
5. Anthropometric testing including body composition.
6. Pulmonary Function testing.
7. Balance Master balance testing.
VII.
ASSESSMENT
OF STUDENT LEARNING/EVALUATION/POLICIES
1. Attend class and actively participate in class discussions and activities.
2. Satisfactorily complete one exam. The exam may consist of objective multiple choice questions and short answer items covering the following information: outside readings, outside assignments, lectures, audio-visuals, guest speakers, and general questions from student presentations.
3. Complete the 5 outside lab assignments by the requested deadlines provided to you by the instructor.
4. Fitness Assessment Grading Scale (2% per assessment)
1 missed assessment -5% plus the 2% for the assessment itself
2-3 missed assessments -10% plus 2% for each assessment missed
4-5 missed assessments -20% plus 2% for each assessment missed
GRADING:
Grade for the course will be based on the following:
Academic Service Learning Project #1 30%
(15 Fitness Assessments)
Academic Service Learning Project #2 10%
(Participation in the GC&SU Health Fair)
5 Laboratory Assignments/Participation 50%
Final Exam 10%
Final course grade will be based on the following scale:
A 90-100
B 80-89.99
C 70-79.99
D 60-69.99
F < 60
POLICIES:
1. Regular class attendance is essential due to the participatory nature of the course. If you miss more than two classes your grade will be decreased an additional 5% for each every class that is missed.
2. There will be no make-up exams without an official written excuse from the university or a physician.

Where appropriate, this course will address racial, cultural, and gender differences in regard to health and exercise values attitudes and behaviors and will explore the importance of cultural sensitivity in teaching methodologies.
Academic

Students are expected to comply with
all aspects of the GC&SU Student Academic Dishonesty Policies as described
in the Undergraduate Catalog. Students
violating this code will receive an "F" on the assignment and/or an
"F" in the course in which the academic dishonesty occurred.

Any student
requiring modifications due to a documented disability should make an

Fire
Drill Procedure:
In the event of a fire alarm signal,
students should exit the building in a quick, orderly manner through the
nearest hallway exit not obstructed by fire and/or smoke. Students should be familiar with the floor
plan and exits of this building. In case
of fire, do not use the elevator and do not reenter the building under any
circumstances. Assemble for a head count
in the parking lot.
