Welcome to Sharon Spink's website!
Hello Pre-Education students!
My name is Sharon Spink & I'm the Pre-Education Advisor for the John H. Lounsbury College of Education. My role is to assist you in planning your academic college career. I meet with freshman, sophomore, and transfer Pre-Education students at least once per semester to recommend class schedules for the upcoming semester. You are also free to discuss other academic matters and to schedule additional appointments.
I have been advising students since July 2005. I was the primary advisor for freshman and sophomore Pre-Journalism and Arts & Sciences Honors students and the secondary advisor for junior and senior Honors students at the University of Georgia. Then, I advised graduate applicants to the M.P.A. & Ph.D. Public Administration & Policy programs for the School of Public & International Affairs at the University of Georgia. I am enthusiastic about advising undergraduate Pre-Education students at the John H. Lounsbury College of Education at Georgia College & State University. The College of Education is dedicated to preparing "Architects of Change." Graduates of its faculty mentored, field-based cohort model have been compared to teachers with two to three years of teaching experience. The John H. Lounsbury College of Education has a unique teacher preparation program in which Mentor Leaders guide cohort students through their major coursework and field placements. I feel privileged to assist its students. I am here to help you succeed at GCSU.
My office is in 217-B Kilpatrick Hall. I will have occasional meetings and other commitments, so please contact me to schedule an appointment in advance. You can reach me at (478) 445- 6428, sharon.spink@gcsu.edu
My expectations of you are as follows:
-Keep your appointment. If you are unable to do so, call or e-mail me ahead of time to reschedule.
-Come prepared! Ultimately, you are responsible for your academic college career.* I am here to advise you of the Core Curriculum requirements (Areas A-F) and to assist you with the cohort application process (applying to an Education major). You must apply and be admitted to a cohort to become an Education major, until that time you are a Pre-Education major.
Here are a few suggestions to help you prepare for your advising appointment:
-Keep all of your advising related documents together in one folder.
-Bring the folder each time you come to be advised.
-Keep a sheet of paper in the folder to write down questions as they come to mind.
-Know thyself. Be prepared to discuss your interests and life goals.
I look forward to meeting you.
Best,
Sharon Spink, M.A.
